PANAMA CITY-BAY COUNTY AIRPORT AND INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT ELECTS MARK
SHELDON AS BOARD CHAIR
Mark Sheldon Elected Chair of the Board for Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport
PANAMA CITY, Fla. (August 22, 2024) — On Wednesday, July 24, Mark Sheldon was elected Board Chair by the Panama City-Bay County Airport and Industrial District, which owns and operates Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP).
He succeeds former Board Chair Holly K. Melzer, who was the first woman to hold the position. During Melzer’s two years as Chair, she oversaw major developments to the Airport including ongoing expansion and construction. She also welcomed Project Maple, which is utilizing a Triumph Grant to welcome the aviation maintenance and repair company Premier Aviation. Melzer will continue to serve on the Board.
As former Vice Chair of the Board, Sheldon plans to continue to apply his knowledge of the Region’s economy, culture and needs to pursue the Airport’s best interests. In his new position as Board Chair, Sheldon will focus on diversifying and strengthening the local economy through the growth of Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport while also prioritizing delivering the best possible travel experience for travelers.
“I am honored to step into this role and have the opportunity to guide the Airport through this ongoing era of outstanding growth and success,” Sheldon said. “ECP plays a fundamental role in our economy and I’m excited to approach serving the Region from this unique perspective.”
“Mark’s familiarity with our Region is unmatched, making him an excellent choice for this role,” said Parker W. McClellan Jr., A.A.E., Executive Director of Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport. “With his extensive experience, passengers and Bay County residents can be assured that our Airport will flourish under his leadership.”
The Panama City-Bay County Airport and Industrial District’s purpose is to oversee and promote the industrial, commercial and economic development of the district, especially through Airport projects. The Airport District consists of seven members, serving four-year terms and limited to two terms. Two board members are appointed by the City Commission of Panama City, two by the Board of Bay County Commissioners, two by the City Council of Panama City Beach, and one by the Board of County Commissioners of Walton County.
Sheldon served as the Mayor of Panama City Beach and is the COO and Manager Member of PCB Entertainment, LLC, and R&M Entertainment, LLC, where he manages large attendance music festivals including the renowned Gulf Coast Jam. He also serves the Panama City Beach community on several other local boards and enjoys coaching his two children’s sports teams in his free time.
