NORTHWEST FLORIDA BEACHES INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT TO EXPAND PASSENGER GROUND TRANSPORTATION OPTIONS WITH TRANSPORTATION NETWORK COMPANIES (TNC)
LYFT AND UBER TO BEGIN OFFERING RIDE SHARING SERVICE
PANAMA CITY, FL (March 22, 2017) – Passengers flying through Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP) now have the option to call for an Uber or Lyft to get home from the airport or to get to their destination upon arrival. This transportation-for-hire service will complement the airport’s additional services including terminal-based shuttles, as well as curbside taxis, shuttles and limos.
Popular ridesharing services in which passengers call for a ride via the company’s app, have started serving Bay County this month. Uber launched on March 10 and Lyft launched on March 27.
“ECP is excited to offer even more transportation options to our passengers,” said Parker W. McClellan, Jr., airport Executive Director. “In addition to our existing rental car, taxi and shuttle services, passengers traveling through ECP now have the option to call for an Uber or Lyft, adding to the convenience of our airport.”
Passengers can wait on their Uber or Lyft ride in the designated Transportation Network Company pick up area located across the street near the entrance to the covered parking lot outside of the airport’s main entrance. Ridesharing signage is in place to help direct passengers to this location.
Adding ridesharing services not only benefits passengers, but will add an economic benefit for the airport. ECP will receive compensation for each rideshare happening at the airport and will receive retroactive payment for rideshares that have occurred between the launch of Uber on March 10 and now.
Uber’s website offers the following tips for requesting a ride at the airport:
- Request your ride after you’ve collected your luggage from baggage claim and are ready to step outside. If you have multiple bags or more than four riders, it’s best to request a high-capacity vehicle.
- The app will provide details on where to meet your driver, such as in a designated area. *
*ECP offers a designated rideshare area located across the street near the entrance to the covered parking lot, outside the airport’s main entrance.
